Hanelie Lategan is an accomplished procurement leader with over 30 years of experience across the public and private sectors in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. As Director of Procurement for the Queensland Government, she crafts strategies that prioritize ethical, sustainable, and culturally responsive practices. Hanelie’s leadership has consistently delivered value for money while achieving positive social outcomes.
Raised in a small, semi-desert town in South Africa, she developed resilience and a strong work ethic from a young age, helping her mother run a local shop. These early experiences continue to guide her professional journey, where she has delivered impactful work wherever she went, including in New Zealand’s government and housing sectors.
An accredited World Commerce and Contracting member, Hanelie is a passionate and optimistic speaker who shares insights on supplier performance and relationship management, and innovation in end-to-end procurement at international conferences. Committed to workplace well-being, she also speaks on the connection between mental health and leadership. She is currently writing two books: one to demystify procurement and another focusing on mental health at work.
